Living in Brighton

Well what a couple of days, started off ok, had a lovely call from Dan and all going well for him, but then things deteriorated as the day progressed. Deidre was coming for dinner and I was a bit late putting on the roast meat, and then when she arrived she was stressed out to the eyeballs a continuation of her fall out with Siobhan, dinner was less than successful as herself and TJ were upset and him crying like a baby,(why he got into such a tiss I'll never know) Then we had the texting between them etc etc. I was glad when it was all over and then of course then I can't sleep normally when something like this is going on, but thank God I did last night I think I was mentally tired from aa\ll the drama.
I went to see Siobhan today and of course I heard her side of the story and as usual somewhere in there, there is a semblence of truth from both sides, but she didn't want to see me as she believed I'd not accept her side of the story,  but eventually I calmed her down and told her of my love for her and that I wouldn't take sides.
It's a very long saga altogether!!

When I came  we spent a couple of hours in the garden admiring the Rosellas in our Grevillia trees, then I mowed and spent some time admiring my vegies and my flowers which are all coming on splendidly.

Haven't heard from Deidre yet regards her getting the house and I'm not looking forward to hearing about more brawling
will keep you posted, she did get the house horay! So please god things will settle down now.

BRIGHTON

living in Brighton was great as we had a lovely house with 4 bedrooms and a huge block we were near the family and had good friends there.
JFK had various jobs in that period, he worked in a factory which made luggage, he was a carpet layer for Myers, a gardener at a couple of State High schools and he even had a great job at ICI which was an office job in charge of sales to Floor layers and Shops, he left there to become a self employed layer, there was plenty of work around and of course John always was a victim and eventually it dried up as well, eventually my father gave him part of his milk run which didn't last very long as he had to get up and work in the early hours of the night, However saying all that we had a good life there not much money but still a good life.We had four babies while living there,Daniel born '68 Anne '69 Declan'70 and Siobhan '72. To say I was busy would be a bit of an understatement! but when people asked how I coped I just laugh and say I don't know (what a stupid question) Margaret and Martin started their schooling at St Kierans but we left Brighton when he was in grade 2 to move to Rockhampton for work and greener pastures of course.

After the honeymoon

My day started by going to Mass at 9am,and then to the Nursing Home to visit and bring Holy Communion to some of the inmates, this is a very humbling time for me to see what is just around the corner for ourselves.
From there we set off for Warwick, we stopped at Toowoomba for lunch and then drove through some small country towns which are all quite pretty and green after so much rain, we stopped in at Allora for afternoon tea which was like an old world restaurant overlooking pretty gardens and old fashioned service with piklets and cream, very decadent!
We arrived at the Motel which I had booked on Tuesday night(Country Rose)only to be told we didn't have a booking as they had double booked the room, this did not go down very well with me and I let aknow in uncertain tones that I was not happy.
The Proprietor rang and organised a room at another Motel for us which was much nicer and cheaper and in which we will be staying in future, luckily I brough our oats and I was able to make our porridge for breakie
we met Sandy and boys and arranged to have dinner at the RSL which was great the food was great but I was still full from lunch and afternoon tea.
Later we watched the footy which was terrible and scrappy and players fighting not a great game at all, and I believe Melb. got the rough end of the stick.

Saturday
Rain piddling down and cold, went to mass and then Sandy and I went to the Op shop her favorite shop and she bought some more crapola!
We left for home around 11.30 and got home around half past two we were held up for about 20minutes on the highway,

Sunday

Mass 7.30am and breakie afterwards and there was a stall to raise some funds for the Vinnies for Christmas hampers. Of course I bought some stuff which I didn't need but it was for a good cause.
Deidre and Tj came over and we had sausage rolls and tea and played cards we took the dog for a walk and she left around 3pm.

  Start of Married life
We lived in South Brisbane for a month and then moved to another flat at Bowen Hills where we lived for about 12 months, then we had our first baby (Margaret Mary) who of course was the most beautiful child ever born, she was a delight to have It wasnt long before I got pregnant again and we moved into a house in Bowen Hills which was two doors down the hill to where we were living, and when I was in hospital having number two child (Martin) when my dipstick idiot of a a husband, who I will refer to as (JFK)
had a massive fight with my mother, and of course when imovable objects meet you can bet there will be problems. Not sure how long that lasted but I know it was very tense for sometime.
WE had a very dear friend who gave us some money to put a deposit on a house in Brighton. We had an Irish lad living with us Tony Lamont who was one of life's gentlemen who I realised JFK was extremely jelous of as Tony would do anything for me and would give me driving lessons and help me in the house and when it came to moving to Brighton him and me did most of it when old lazy bones slept(JFK)

Love in Rocky.

I don't feel I am getting any better so I took myself to the Doc and having some tests, so lets hope nothing sinister there,
went shopping nothing exciting at all today didn't get to bridge so just a very quiet day at home mostly.

Love in Rocky

It was in Rockhampton that I met the love of my life, it was a passionate love affair, he was a great romantic, flowers every week and presents oh it was a great romance, we only knew each other over 12 months when we got married, we were married in St Kierans church in Brighton by my second cousin FR Bill we then had our reception at Moura Park in Shorncliffe, and then caught a bus to Buderim where we had a weeks holiday at a motel, we used to walk to Maroochydoor every day and then hitch a ride back to the motel, it was such a lovely place and some of the people staying there and also the owners used to take us on day trips, but alas it only lasted for a week and then we took the bus back home to a flat in South Brisbane.Life was so easy then.

My first Jobs

Yesterday I went to the city with the intention of returning my shoes to have repaired by homy ped shoes but on arrival there I was given a full refund, thank you homy ped. I then met Margs for lunch and had a very enjoyable meal.
From there it was home on the train and returned home at 3.30. Deidre and TJ came for dinner and we had Shepard Pie, and carmelised pears and ice cream, yummy!
Today we started off by going to Mass and then to Farmer Pats for vegies, chemist for scripts and butcher for meat,
In the pm I went to Clontarf and met Siobhan and we went for coffee and cake at Woody Point
Presenty we are waiting for Deidre to come and pick up Sultan(her dog)
Today I booked Motel for our weekend at Warwick and received our invitation to Sally's wedding in NZ
It looks like it may be a smashing affair.

Journey update

My first job in Brisbane was working in a Deli shop in West end, which I lasted in for 2 months, when my mother heard of a receptionist required for a local dentist in Sandgate I worked for Mr Feeney for 2years and then my sister Anne encouraged me to become a nurse training at the Mater Hospital in South Brisbane, this was a four year course and after 3 years there I transferred to the Mater in Rockhampton

Margate

Oh my favorite day I love Tuesdays St Anthony's Day I say 9 Hail Mary's in honour of my favorite Saint and inevitabley I get a surprise, sometimes its a phone call from someone I haven't heard from or a visit from a friend but always something. Today I had a call from Deidre saying that contact had been made by Tj with Siobhan and they had a little chat(thank you Saint Anthony)I had just finished saying my prayer.
Today I'm off to town to have lunch with Margaret-Mary which is always a delight and also try and see if Terry Whites Chemist will do something about my Homey Ped shoes which I bought there in March.

My Journey cont

Margate turned out to be at the seaside, and of course we had maybe been to the seaside probably half a dozen times in our lives so this was a great new adventure to us, we thought we were in heaven, however, reality set in fairly soon when we were told this was only a holiday house and could only stay there 2 weeks, but then the St Vinnies came to our rescue and got us a house in Brighton, this was a very big place and in retrospect a dump, we lived there for 7months.

Living in Australia

Monday slept in until 6.30 and decided I'd go to Mass at 7.30 but priest forgot to come he thought is was set for 9am, as I had told Tony to have breakie ready for 8am I left just as he got there.(the priest) Scrambled eggs were the menu. Had a call from Joseph last night and a great chat with him, he's all excited about his new job in Melbourne and the prospect of buying a new house there, good luck Joe!
Still not feeling great today and looks like my problem is not going away. Today I finished Tony's rug and started on another scarfe for my friends in China.Thank to Anne in MtIsa for all your help with my blog my mind just goes blank when I get started, but maybe as I get more used to it I'll improve.
We arrived in Brisbane on the 30th March 1957, we had traveled by train from Sydney which took about 16hrs or so to a very hot day and were met by my fathers uncle (Uncle Joe) who took us to a hostel at Kangaroo Point and were made to sleep in a dormitory with other immigrants (mostly from England) who were feeling the heat as much as ourselves, we all awoke the next morning with the most horrific mosquito bites, fortunately for us we were only allowed to stay there for 3 days and then the Irish association came to our rescue and took us to a holiday house at Margate.
