What a busy week we've had this week. Started off quiet enough
Monday we visited yet another Temple this time a "Maoist" one, not quite as nice as Chi Lin Nunnery but still very nice and peacful, amidst the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong. I then picked up my new spectacles and I love them, these ones are so light and they are transitions and about a quarter the price of what they'd have cost in Aust.
Tuesday we had the Notre Dame school singing festival it was similar to ours at home, each class put on a performance and then they were judged by independant judges, and awarded the prizes .It was in English and this made it very enjoyable and so impressive from most of the students who struggle with the English langauge.
We then had lunch at the Presbytery and met Mary and Joseph from Victoria, they are a delightful couple, who had won a trip to China but decided to spend a few days in Hong Kong, we walked them back to our home here, and we have spent a most enjoyable time with them. Tuesday night after dinner we had our first game of Up and Down the river, it was just like being at home. Joe enjoyed drinking a cup of tea also, and realised how I've missed drinking tea with someone else who also enjoys having one.
Wednesday was a holiday here, so we took it easy in the am, had breakie with Mary and Joe, they had prebooked a tour. We took a Ferry ride to Hong Kong Island ,and when we got off the ferry there were Markets on, and these ones were different to any of the touristy ones we've seen so far, it was mostly Indonesians and Fillopino's there, and no tourists at all, so things were very cheap even very cheap for Hong Kong.
Thursday was Holy Thursday so no early Mass, after breakfast we took Mary and Joe to see the Chi Lin Nunnery and spent most of the day there, had vegetarian sandwich again!!! almost a vegie again?? (Not likely with the vegie stuff they give you here)
Thursday night we had Mass and it was the mosst moving Mass I'vebeen to for a very long time, it was in Chinese but they sang the "Tanco Mergo" (pardon the spelling) and it brought me back to my final year at St Malachy's in Dundalk where we sang it in the school choir for the final time in Latin, my mother was at the Mass, and I said to her afterwards, did you like the singing Mammy? and she said,(I did and I could hear your voice) I wonder if I've ever said anything that nice to my kids! I hope I have. What an extradinary thing to be thinking of in Hong Kong. I've been praying for her and hope she will say a prayer for all of us as well. It was certainly a time of reflection for me.
Good Friday and raining
Still Mary and Joe wanted to do something for the day, so we decided to go and see the big buddah on Lantau Island, we left here around 9am and thought we'd be back for 3pm service, but it took us over an hour and a half to get there, but as they only had yesterday we decided to forgo Church and would pray when we came back home.
We had lunch over there fish and chips so yummy!!!!!!1
So then we had to walk up 250 steep steps to see the huge Buddah, but it was worth it, Tony and Joe were not quite as enthused as Mary and I were. We got home about 6pm decidedly exhausted, we had some soup and read the Passion of Our Lord and prayers of the faitful, may not be quite the same as in Church but it was nice just the same.
Then Joe showed Tony how to set up the Power Point, which took up the rest of the evening eventually falling into bed around ten pm very enjoyable day
Saturday Tony is very tired so after breakie he is back in bed so I'm doing my blog.
will add photos later
