Melbourne Cup Day

What a quiet day I'm having today?  Tony has two Dr's appt's so I'm housebound and not much to do.
I do miss the big hullabaloo of the cup sweeps and lunch at a fancy restaurant! we used to do at the clinic. But I did manage to get a bet on so can look forward to watching the big race.
My horse in the Melbourne looked as enthusiastic as this one !!
So now to see how my horses fare in the cup !!!!
Oops! did my dosh!!
Yesterday we had a visit from the provincial of the Oblates Fr Harry Dyer and old and beautiful Fr Donal ( not Donald as he always reminds us) they came for afternoon tea and stayed for over 2hrs it was a great afternoon and we all had a great chat and laugh.

Anne is extremely busy at school preparing her students for their graduation and has bought all the gear to cut and style their hair and cosmetics to do the make up for the night, I do believe God has sent her there as she has made such a difference to these kids, and typical Anne she feeds and clothes half of them and not to mention shelter for some. Hopefully we intend to get some formal wear for the girls and maybe some for the boys as well, I have an appointment at Morayfield Vinnies on Thursday arvo just need to know some sizes.
Really should mow but why do something today when I can put it off until tomorrow!!!!

Christening of Jasmine

What a beautiful baby is Jasmine and what a lovely natured baby as well.
Sacred Heart Church Sandgate was the venue for the Baptism of Jasmine and all the usual suspects were there, (so to speak) The Priest was very informative and explained everything he did and why its done. I thought he'd drown the poor child with the amount of water he poured over her.
We then  adjourned to Emily's home in Regency Street, where she put on a fantastic spread.
It was lovely catching up with the family and hearing how all the families are going.

Busy busy busy

What a busy week this has been, it started off quiet enough usual Monday walk, mass and then I went to the city and met up with my sister Katherine and had lunch at the Irish Club, from there we went to St Pauls book store to get some nice books for grandchildren etc and spent a very plesant hour there, we had a lovely catch up day.

Tuesday I went to help Siobhan at shop as Gerard had, had his op on his shoulder I was up and ready to go at 4am and hardly slept all night watching the clock. Siobhan and Gerard run a little convenience shop at Clontarf and are very busy from 3am until 7 or 8am. I was home by 7.30 and then I spent the rest of the day being tired and lethargic. I'm so not up to going to work anymore.
Wed I went to the shop for  a couple of hours, and when I got home I took the car over to Taringa for a service and as they gave me a very zippy red two door new Audi I made the most of that, I had some time for shopping in Paddington from there I had lunch with the clinic people,  it was a very nice place up at the Barracks at Petrie Terrace called "The Chelsea"
Lunch was very nice but a bit exi !! From there I went back to Indooroopilly and caught up with Georgie and Henry and afterwards had a very short time with Ruby when she got home from school.  It was then time to pick up the car and drive home. I was in bed by 6.30 that night
Thursday I went to the shop again, we didn't go to cards as it was all a bit rushed, we just worked a while in the garden and then I made a big start on my quilt square I love doing that and as  a result I'm not on the computer as much.
Friday was shop again I was not quite as keen getting out of bed that morning but I was still at Clontarf by 4.30am Gerard came in around 5.30 and he seemed able enough to do the till so I left there around the 7am mark.
Tony and I did the Nursing home visit and brought Holy Communion the the Catholic Community there.
Friday was coffee day and a little gardening.
Saturday I was totally exhausted and slept in until 7am, too late and too tired to go walking that day and besides it looked like rain and that was my excuse anyway.
Saturday night was our Parish Dinner, and the guest speaker was "Khoa Do"
he was an excellent speaker and his life story is so inspiring he spoke and told stories for nearly an hr, he was young Australian of the Year in 2005 and as he said last night, anyone who wants to achieve in Australia can! from refugee to Australian of the Year, wow!!!!
Just can't get this to stay upright! will have to get Anne to look at it soon

 This was our theme

So today we are off to the Baptism of Emily's baby "Jasmine" at Sacred Heart Church in Sandgate and then party at her house, hope to take some photos there

Gold Coast Visit

This has been a very busy few days for us.

Wednesday it was Woody Point day for afternoon tea with Siobhan.
Thursday was Bridge day, and when I came home from there, there was a message from Care and Concern (I think thats an inter church group) wanting Tony to mow a lady's lawn, and as he is not up to that I decided to do that, and mowing at 3pm is a lot warmer than at 7am I was very hot after that, it wasn't a huge lawn, but it was average size.

Thursday night we met up with Adrienne and Brendan at the Asian Thai restaurant on Beckett's Road for dinner, it was sooooooooooo good we had a lovely night with them and caught up on all the families doings!

Friday I decided to mow our yard before going to the coast and I did that at 7am, so much cooler then.
Then off to Mass and then Tony went to the Nursing Home for Communion and at 10.45am we took off for the coast.
When we got to Kaths and Bernie's place Andrew and Kym and there two lovely children were there, we had a very pleasent lunch and they then returned home to Brissie.
Katherine and me chatted for the most of the afternoon and at 6pm we set off to see Outdoor Spectacular.
This a must show to see, its so Australian, it started of with a tribute to The Man from Snowy River and continued on from there, it was funny and serious it was fantastic.
Then they did a section on The Horses of the Light Brigade and a tribute to the Australian Diggers, it brought a lump to my throat. so many deaths and all I could think of was the song Willie McBride, and the countless white crosses that standing mute in the sun, and that is exactly what it was like when we were at Flanders and France. so so sad!
We had a great night and thoroughly enjoyable

Sat morn Katherine and I went for a long 5km walk along the shore at Labrador and then came back and Bernard cooked us up a huge brekkie,
Then we were invited to Katherine's friend Judith for morning tea, and she had made delicious scones yummy!!
She has a lovely unit on the waterfront,
Somehow or another I got conned into doing some embroidery squares for her project for Africa, not sure if I can do this, but will give it my best try.

We arrived home around 2pm and can't remember the trip home as I slept for most of it.

EXCITEMENT GALORE

Today we started our day with a walk and it was quite windy but cool and lovely.

Then just the usual agenda, breakfast, prayers, Tony to the garden and me to do chores, and as its Tuesday it cleaning day. but I got rescued from that by having a call from my sister Katherine (we usually take an hour to catch up on the craic)

We decided we would both like to see the Outdoor Spectacular at Movie world so that is exactly what we are doing this Friday night, as this seems to be the only free night we have in the foreseeable future, I'm very excited about that, we will spend the weekend on the coast, and get home on the Sat evening as we are both rostered on this weekend at Mass.
We have made a luncheon date for Monday week, probably the Irish Club, its very nice there and then a little shopping therapy! I love being retired!!!!!!

Indooroopilly on Sunday

Today is such a beautiful day, not too hot, its just beautiful.
We set out to go to Indooroopilly and catch up with Martin and family, the idea being that we would take the children to Mass once a month, we left the Bay around 6.15am and got there shortly after 7am. Martin and Georgie were still in bed as they had been to a Trivia night at the school, but we had a game with the kids and soon Martin was up and about, had a cuppa and all went to Mass including Margaret-Mary. There was a baptisim on during the Mass of a friend of M's and G's and then afterwards a huge morning tea was provided, it was such a lovely morning and a nice start to the week.

We spent the afternoon watching the footy and what a great result, and we hoped that the good luch would continue in the next game, but it wasn't to be!! ah well there is always a next time.

Monday morn arrived and it is cold and wet again!! what the middle of Oct and its still cold!!

While I was at Mass Tony finished taking out the rest of the trees, it was quite easy as most of the digging had been done on Saturday. We then planted some  Geraniums in that spot and another shrub which I can't remember the name of but it has a lovely red flower on it!
Praying for Anne to get that job in Cairns as its been awhile since I've been up that way and then I can catch up with two families at the same time.

Thought for today "Trees"

Retirement, really???

Tree Logging

I was told that retirement was easy, well thats a falacy if ever I heard one.

Thursday was Bridge day, enjoyable but not a winning one, but I did go 6 No trumps and got them, I was so proud of my calling!!
On the way home we called in at the butchers and bought a whole rump and other stuff, but when we got home we then had to set about cutting it up and making it into meals and then mincing half of it as we don't like the fat you get on it from the butchers.
The roast looked so good we decided to have guests over to share it with and who better than our good friends Noela and Bill.
Tony and Bill went to Nazerine Nursing home with Holy Communion, and
I went shopping for our dinner, ie nibbles, Whiskey and wine and other goodies.
I decided on a very exotic decadent dessert, and it was delicious, (and no I didn't get it from Google,) I actually got it out of the Messenger of Saint Anthony. It was yummmy!
We had a great night as we always do with the McHugh's
Saturday morn  we had a storm but it was over and done with by 7am, so after breakfast we got stuck into our tree logging, which is quite different to gardening, and just when we were both ready to expire we felt movement and kept on going, but eventually after much huffing and puffing out came one and shortly after, the second one, but there are still two more to go but thank god they are much smaller.
So then it was coffee time, Tony was exhausted so had a shower and off to bed.
I am writing up my blog!!! and now I'll look for a thought

Sunny Wednesday

Start of my day today I went for a walk along the beachfront and even at 6am it had started to warm up.

Then I actually did a spot of housework polished all the furniture,(hopefully that bug is not too addictive) then I mopped and vacuumed.

After all that I thought I should reward myself and went shopping for some new clothes, but all I got were one pair of shorts and nice slacks, (black of course) like I needed them!

Then it was on to visit Siobhan and afternoon tea at the seaside, it was such a beautiful day we sat and drank coffee and tea for two hours.

I was amazed to see so manny jelly fish, it was so clear we could see Morton Island from the jetty, I don't think I got that on the camera.. oh well maybe next time

Hello Blog

                                        My Relish

These are frozen Onions, the result of hard yakka !!!

Its Tuesday already and the last three days have been so busy,
Sunday we went to lunch at Marty's and got home overfed it was a delicous meal I think someone said all animal meat (ie thats the ones we eat) were on the table, roast vegies and of course Georgie's salads and they so yummy!!
Monday I went grocery shopping yuk! I hate grocery shopping, and then Tony went for Acupuncture and arrived home with a huge box of onions and the same of tomato's which all had to be preserved somehow, I have sundried some of the tomato's and made relish with some more and still have half a box left, not to mention what we collected in the garden today, and today I did the onions ie quick freeze them, which cleared up any sinus problems I may have had,(which I didn't) and the kitchen reeks of onions and not a candle in sight.
Early this am I mowed, I love mowing the yard, but I could clobber himself and he likes to come out and watch and add his two bobs worth!!

Then to the dentist to have my last filling, how expensive are they I'm sure it goes up every time I go there. go back in a month and have them polished. I like to spread out the appointments so as not all come out of the credit card at once.

Rainy Saturday

Och it's storm time again, I thought we only got them in the afternoon?
whatever, I had such great plans today, We are taking out another tree and I wanted to get an early start, but I think we will go to the movies instead.
Tony wants to see Red Dog, must say it doesn't appeal to me!!

I am looking for some volunteer work as I have quite some time on my hands nowadays, and am thinking of the Nursing Home or perhaps Rosies, something that when we want to go away we can go without leaving them in a hole. I'm sure if I look hard enough I'll find something!!

Well the movies turned out to be a big fizzer,  When we got to Chermside we drove around for half an hr before finding a park, miles away from the movie theatre, and then we get to buy tickets Tony had forgotton his wallet, och men!!

By the time we drove home the sun had come out so I started on the tree that we have decided to pull out, I lasted on this for a while until I got a hugh blister, not my most successful day!!

photo of the tree that is to come out

I will finish this off later as I have a visitor
